Ask Your Representative to vote NO on HR 1391 - protect your community from toxic coal ash!

 More than 450,000 people have weighed in on federal rulemaking to protect communities from toxic coal ash, but Congressman David McKinley from West Virginia has introduced HR 1391 to stop the federal rulemaking process and silence Americans.
HR 1391 is misleading; it inaccurately claims that enforceable federal safeguards would end the recycling of coal ash. This is untrue; the proposed EPA rulemaking that classifies coal ash as a hazardous waste encourages recycling while safeguarding American communities and natural resources. Additionally, the EPA's economic analysis found that a rulemaking requiring safe coal ash disposal will not have a measurable impact on jobs, energy prices or the economy.
What can you do?
1. Call your Representative and tell them to vote NO on HR 1391 and that coal ash should be regulated as a hazardous waste under Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Tell them you are a constituent from the Representative's district and then share the following, adding any personal perspective you feel appropriate:
- Vote NO on HR 1391.
- HR 1391 ignores the voices of 450,000 people who have asked to be heard on the issue of toxic coal ash disposal.
- Please support the transparent rule making process currently underway by the US EPA to stop the mismanagement of coal ash disposal through a hazardous waste regulation under Subtitle C of RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the federal waste law).
- Please support protection of our health and water; let the EPA do what it was established to do!
- Give them your name and address.
- Thank them.
