Advocates and providers had requested a 2.7% increase to keep pace with inflation, and the Legislature’s proposal recognizes the growing financial pressures facing community-based providers.

However, portions of the proposed funding increases are restricted to certain direct care staff wages, limiting providers’ ability to address the full range of rising costs required to keep programs operating.

Mental health housing providers face increasing expenses across the board — including insurance, utilities, food, transportation, property maintenance, technology, compliance, and staff benefits — in addition to wages. Without flexibility, providers may be forced to shift resources away from other essential operational needs just to meet restricted spending requirements.

The most effective way to strengthen these programs is to ensure that the entire 4% Targeted Inflationary Increase is flexible and available to support both workforce and operational costs.

Sending a letter is so easy to do! Just enter your street address, zip code, and full name below and a digital copy of an E-letter will be generated addressed from you to Legislative members representatives. You can then either choose to e-mail it OR print and mail a hard copy.

We have created this letter because now that the Legislature’s one-house budget bills have been released, the Governor, Senate, and Assembly will begin negotiating the final State Budget for 2026/2027 ahead of the April 1st deadline. It is imperative that we make it clear to state leaders that a final budget needs to include a full and flexible 4% to avoid further cuts to the system.

Our goal is to send at least 100,000 letters before the final budget is released at the end of the month.

We encourage you to send the E-letter again, and again and please forward this link to anyone who would also be willing to send it!
