AMSN FY 25 Appropriations Request
Increased Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 funding for nursing education program, biomedical research, and patient safety programs are essential to the advancement of the nursing profession. Specifically, AMSN is respectfully requesting $530 million in funding for Nursing Workforce Development Programs, as well as $210 million in funding for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR, National Institutes of Health) for Fiscal Year 2025. Please take action today and ask your Members of Congress to support funding for these important programs.
The Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act
The bipartisan Improving Care and Access to Nurses (I CAN) Act (H.R. 2713 and S. 2418) would eliminate practice barriers that adversely affect advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in states with full practice authority and strengthen access to care for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries by empowering ARPNs to practice to their full scope of their education and clinical training, thereby expanding access to vital health care services and promoting continuity of care.
National Nursing Workforce Center Act
The National Nursing Workforce Center Act (H.R.2411 and S.1150) seeks to help stabilize and strengthen the national nursing workforce by funding a 2-year pilot grant program through the Health Resources and Services Administration to support state-based nursing workforce centers.
Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care & Social Service Workers Act
The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R. 2663 and S. 1176) requires the Department of Labor (DOL) to address workplace violence in health care, social service, and other sectors. Specifically, the Agency must issue an interim occupational safety and health standard that requires certain employers to take actions to protect workers and other personnel from workplace violence.

Please take action to urge your Members of Congress to support passage of the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R. 1195 and S. 4182).
John Lewis Equality in Medicare and Medicaid Treatment Act
