Ask Your Colorado State Representative to Vote NO on HB25-1258

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers strongly supports the use of sound science in wildlife management.  Unfortunately, House Bill 25-1258, titled ‘Scientific Wildlife Management,’ is a thinly veiled bill by anti-hunting elements aimed at reducing Colorado’s long history of utilizing hunting and angling as a primary wildlife management tool.

It undercuts Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s (CPW) ability to determine what constitutes the best available science and to use their own data and research. Similar bills have been introduced by anti-hunting organizations across the country as part of a national strategy to reduce the role of hunter and angler harvest in wildlife management.

The outstanding recovery to the abundant wildlife we now have in Colorado is largely attributable to CPW’s adherence to the standards of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, which has chartered the conservation success stories for all 50 state game and fish agencies across the country.

This bill is scheduled to be heard before the House Agriculture, Water, and Natural Resources Committee on either Thursday, February 27, 2025 or on the following Monday, March 3, 2025.
