Current Actions http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA Fri, 09 May 2025 05:01:51 GMT Support the Transportation & Climate Alignment Act http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/31 <div>The Transportation and Climate Alignment Act of 2025 (HB 84/SB 395) is a priority bill for the Transportation Alliance in the 2025 legislative session. Transportation is the largest source of climate pollution in Maryland. It is also the second largest expense for most Americans after housing. The bill would encourage state investment in public transit, walking, and biking infrastructure to reduce tailpipe pollution and give Marylanders more safe and affordable options to get to work, school, healthcare, and other locations.</div> Fri, 07 Feb 2025 05:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/31 Restore and Reinvest in Transit http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/29 <div>Governor Moore and Maryland Secretary of Transportation Paul Wiedefeld have proposed a capital budget for Baltimore's transit system that would cut $670 million in basic repair and maintenance needs. The cuts are so deep that the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to seek an exemption from a state law that requires MDOT to fund MTA’s repair needs at a basic level.</div> <div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>The proposed budget cuts threaten to delay critical repairs, including:</div> <ul> <li>Rail replacement on Howard Street</li> <li>The replacement of 81 escalators at Metro stations</li> <li>Rehabilitation and lighting upgrades at key Metro stations such as Owings Mills, Old Court, and Milford Mill</li> <li>The rebuilding of the Eastern Bus division</li> <li>Replacement of Traction Power Substations for the Light Rail</li> </ul> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Such drastic cuts would worsen conditions for an already underfunded system that is struggling with vehicle breakdowns and equipment failures that leave riders behind.</div> </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Right now, the Governor's office and the Maryland Department of Transportation are revising the document in preparation to submit a program as part of the state budget presented at the next session of the Maryland General Assembly in January 2025. Now is the time to tell Governor Moore to reverse the planned cuts and restore MTA's budget.</div> Wed, 20 Nov 2024 05:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/29 Get Maryland Moving http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/28 <div> <div>From Salisbury, to Baltimore, to Frederick, all Marylanders deserve to get around safely, reliably, and affordably. Wherever we live across the state, we want our communities to be inclusive and vibrant. Our transportation system plays a key role in making that happen.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>But the Maryland Department of Transportation – influenced by the asphalt and road-building industry -- continues to pour OUR tax dollars into expanding roads and widening highways. This type of wasteful spending has been proven to actually increase traffic and have negative impacts on air pollution, water quality, and public health.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Imagine if these resources were instead spent on accessible sidewalks, crosswalks, bike paths, and investing in high-quality public transit that helps increase access and safety for all Marylanders.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Tell Governor Moore that if he truly wants to leave no one behind it’s time for Maryland to fund transit, biking, and walking projects, that get us all where we need to go.</div> </div> Thu, 18 Jan 2024 05:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/28 We Need to Raise our Grade http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/7 <div>Transportation in the Baltimore Region earns a 'D+' in our latest report card. Operator shortages and disrepair hurts transit reliability. Households struggle with high transportation costs and too many neighborhoods lack access to opportunities. Tell your elected officials that a 'D+' is unacceptable and we need better transportation projects and policies that will grow the economy, give people choices and keep our environment healthy.</div> Mon, 09 Nov 2015 05:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/CMTA/7
