TELL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS: STAND WITH PUBLIC LIBRARY EMPLOYEES ACROSS MARYLAND TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT TO JOIN A UNION

Show your solidarity for Maryland Public Library Employees and support their right to join together and form a union. These hardworking public servants deserve the freedom to secure a strong voice at work and a chance to bargain for working conditions they need and deserve.

House Bill 1225 will give all the dedicated public library employees in Maryland the ability to bargain for better working conditions and a voice in the decision making process. A voice that is expected to improve the function and services to the communities they serve.

Since libraries in Maryland are created by state law, state legislation had to be drafted for library workers to be able to collectively bargain. This bill does that, giving them a voice, a vote and the means to help the library system thrive and grow in the future.

Maryland public library employees were on the front lines throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, offering services and resources to all Maryland residents in every community. It’s time we say thank you and support them. This legislation is about protecting their freedom to have a voice and vote on the job. Tell your elected officials to vote YES on HB 1225.

Tell your Senators and Representative to Invest in our Nation's Shipyards.

To maintain our nation's superiority at sea, investments must be made to optimize and improve our shipyards. The Supplying Help to Infrastructure in Ports, Yards, and America's Repair Docks (SHIPYARD) Act of 2021 would invest $21 billion in the U.S. Navy's four public shipyards in Maine, Washington state, Virginia and Hawaii and bolster defense infrastructure, fleet repair and overall capability. It would also in invest $4 billion in U.S. Navy private repair and new construction shipyards.

These improvements not only help keep our nation safe, but also help sustain high-paying and skilled jobs in the shipbuilding industry.

Urge Your Illinois Senator to Support HB 3940

The Warranty Work Reimbursement Bill would amend the Motor Vehicle Franchise Act (815 ILCS 710/). The bill seeks to define and expand upon how motor vehicle manufacturers are required to "adequately and fairly" compensate each of its motor vehicle dealerships for labor and parts associated with warranty work.

HB 3940 will also improve warranty work time allocation and stop underestimating the time set by the manufacturer. Additionally, the legislation will require the manufacture to compensate the dealer for warranty work the same way the customer pays the dealer and more.

Ultimately the bill would bring much-needed change to the laws surrounding warranty agreements between motor vehicle manufacturers and dealerships in Illinois.

Foreign airline carriers are trying to exploit American airline workers by undercutting pay, benefits, working conditions and safety standards as ‘flags of convenience’ carriers. Flag of convenience carriers are foreign air carriers established in a country other than the home country of its majority owner. This is done in order to avoid regulations of the home country.

The Fair and Open Skies Act would prohibit the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) from issuing a new foreign air carrier permit for U.S. operations to any airline that exploits “flags of convenience” to avoid important employment, tax and safety regulations of its home country, or otherwise undermine labor standards.

Hold corporations accountable by strengthening the National Labor Relations Board and allowing it to penalize employers who retaliate against working people in support of the union or collective bargaining.
Create pathways for workers to form unions, without fear, in newer industries like Big Tech.

Support IAM Defense Jobs, 2021 National Defense Authorization Act

The IAM is advocating for lawmakers to quickly approve a bipartisan defense authorization bill that would fund numerous military programs built and maintained by Machinists Union members. Together, the programs support more than 100,000 IAM aerospace defense and shipbuilding jobs.

Thanks to the IAM’s lobbying efforts, the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) authorizes funding for 93 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, 24 F-18 Super Hornets, 15 C-130 Super Hercules, 12 F-15 Eagles, 15 KC-46 Tankers, eight F-8 Poseidons, two DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class Destroyers, a Columbia-class Ballistic Submarine, and two Virginia-class attack Submarines.
