Tell the White House and Congress to STOP the dismantling of refugee resettlement.

On January 27th, President Trump issued an executive order that halted the resettlement of refugees in a drastic and unprecedented way. In stopping refugee admissions from seven majority-Muslim countries, Trump has made good on his campaign promise to ban Muslims from entering the United States. Within hours of the executive order, we are already seeing the fallout of such careless cruelty; green-card holders are being detained at airports, dual citizens are unable to move freely between their homelands, and refugees who helped the United States military are being walled off from their families and loved ones. Tell Donald Trump and your representatives that this goes against what America stands for and needs to be opposed.

Subject: STOP the extreme anti-refugee actions!

I write to you today asking you to oppose the executive actions that have drastically changed the refugee resettlement program. 

On January 27, 2016, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order to suspend the entire U.S. refugee resettlement program for 120 days with few exceptions. He banned the arrival of Syrian refugees indefinitely and reduced the overall number of refugees who will enter the United States this year by more than half. 
This announcement grinds refugee processing to a halt. Each step of the refugee security check process is time sensitive, so a pause in processing will mean that refugees are pulled off of planes, families who are anticipating their loved ones are devastated, and communities that have planned for refugees to arrive are left in limbo. Such an interruption in processing will force refugees who were set to arrive in the United States today to wait months and even years to go through fingerprinting, interviews, health screenings, and multiple security screenings yet again, all while their lives are in danger.  This is a clear case of religious discrimination and must be decried as such. 

We call on members of this new administration and the 115th Congress to do everything in their power to reverse this announcement.
This order is so broad that persons born in the seven named countries who are in the U.S. pursuing PhDs, working at Minnesota's leading hospitals and corporations, who have green cards or who hold dual citizenship must now be warned that it is no longer advised to travel after the 27th since we cannot guarantee they'll be able to return. U.S. citizens being told you may not be allowed back into your own county.

Please do everything in your power to oppose these extreme, unprecedented anti-refugee actions.
