On Monday, more than 150 members of National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) were on Capitol Hill for their annual advocacy day, with more than 150 meetings planned with lawmakers and staff from 35 states.
Last week, after more than 10,000 emails and phone calls were sent to members of the House of Representatives, an amendment that proposed eliminating Peace Corps funding for the next fiscal year was withdrawn. On Monday, our message to lawmakers was to increase funding for the Peace Corps, and to recognize and honor the nearly quarter-million volunteers who have served our nation over the past 65 years.
