Thanks to the efforts of many Peace Corps community members, 119 members of the House of Representatives signed an annual letter, circulated this March by RPCV Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) and Congresswoman Amata Radewagen (R-American Samoa) supporting increased Peace Corps funding in Fiscal Year 2027.

In this action, you can thank your member if they signed this year's letter, or express your disappointment if they did not.

Recognize Peace Corps Volunteers with a Congressional Gold Medal

The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian honor bestowed by the United States Congress.

As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, the Peace Corps will also be marking its 65th anniversary. We believe this is the moment to recognize the nearly 250,000 individuals who served our nation since 1961 (and the Peace Corps) with a Congressional Gold Medal.

Along with honoring service, this action can help reinforce bipartisan congressional support for the Peace Corps during these highly uncertain times for the future of federal agencies and programs.

In the House of Representatives, Representatives Betty McCollum (D-MN) and John Rutherford (R-FL) have introduced this legislation (H.R. 5521). We hope similar legislation in the Senate will be introduced soon.
