Current Actions http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE Sat, 02 Aug 2025 13:53:46 GMT Speak Out for Critical Standards on Carbon Pollution http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/133 <div>The EPA has proposed rolling back standards that protect our health and God’s creation from the impacts of carbon pollution produced by existing coal and new gas-fired power plants. Fossil fuel power plants are a top source of the carbon pollution fueling climate change, as well as drivers of air pollution that harms our health and air quality.</div> <div><br /> The EPA is currently holding an open comment period on the proposal to rescind these climate pollution limits. We invite you to send a message urging the agency to implement, rather than abandon, these important protections for keeping our communities safe from climate harms.</div> <div><br /> Join us in speaking out below. We appreciate you taking the time to let the EPA know why we as Christians care about defending God’s creation and having a healthy environment for all God’s children to thrive in!</div> Wed, 30 Jul 2025 04:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/133 Call for Strong Safeguards on Mercury http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/134 <div>For over a decade, EEN has been a leading voice advocating for strong mercury and air toxics safeguards that defend our children’s lives and health with over 145,000 pro-life Christians and 150 evangelical leaders supporting the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) that have successfully reduced mercury pollution in the U.S. by 90%.</div> <div><br /> The current EPA, however, has issued a proposal to rescind these highly effective pollution protections and would allow coal-fired power plants to again pollute our air, water, and land with harmful mercury pollution. Mercury and other hazardous pollutants from coal plants are linked with dangerous health conditions including cancer, neurological disorders, and premature death. Rolling back these safeguards is incredibly dangerous for public health, particularly for those who are most vulnerable, such as our children, both born and unborn.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>The EPA is currently receiving public comments on their plan to roll back these protections. Join with us in reminding the agency that there is no safe level of mercury and that we must continue to defend our children’s health from toxic pollution.</div> Wed, 30 Jul 2025 04:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/134 Call on Congress and the EPA to Protect Human Health and the Environment http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/125 <div>On March 12, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its intent to overturn and undo decades of bipartisan consensus on critical pollution safeguards that have resulted in cleaner air and water and significant health improvements. The announcements cover 31 health protections, including standards on mercury, soot, and traffic pollution as well as the reconsideration of a decade-old, evidence-based conclusion that carbon dioxide, methane, and four other climate-warming pollutants endanger human health and welfare.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> These crucial protections and safeguards are the result of years of advocacy and commitment to defending the lives of our children and communities from harmful pollution and negative health outcomes including hindered brain development, low birth weight, asthma, and spinal cord defects in newborns as well as higher rates of dementia and cancer in adults. While we have made incredible gains in recent years, the American Lung Association finds that nearly 40% of Americans, representing 131.2 million people, still live in areas with unhealthy air. Our work is far from finished, and we will not rest until all God’s children are free from the burden of pollution and can reach their full God-given potential.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Join us in calling on the EPA to live up to its mission of protecting human health and the environment and urging Congress to prioritize the health and wellbeing of all God’s children over pollution. Send your message today!&nbsp;</div> Fri, 14 Mar 2025 04:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/125 Now is the Time to Stand Strong for God's Creation! http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/123 <div>Over the past few years, our EEN community has worked hard to achieve historic action on pollution safeguards, clean energy, and climate solutions that defend our children’s health, provide family-sustaining careers, and put our nation and the world on the path toward a brighter future.</div> <div><br /> Through your dedicated actions and support, EEN has been a key player in helping pass unprecedented investments in clean energy and climate action through the bipartisan infrastructure bill and even more in the Inflation Reduction Act. In 2024 alone, we celebrated stronger safeguards on soot, methane pollution, carbon pollution from power plants, and traffic pollution from heavy and light-duty vehicles.</div> <div><br /> As we welcome a new administration and Congress, we must ensure that this momentum is continued and not halted or stripped back. Now is the time for us to stand strong for God’s creation and oppose any efforts to undo this progress for a healthy environment and safe climate for all God’s children. Tell your lawmakers you support continued action for God’s creation and a safe climate by sending your message below.</div> Thu, 09 Jan 2025 05:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/123 Lift Your Voice to Support Our Farmers http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/95 <div> <div>Over the past year, EEN has spoken with farmers across the country to hear directly from them about their needs for the federal Farm Bill. Time and again, we heard how conservation programs are helping our farmers. They’re making family farms more resilient to extreme weather and are defending America's food security. Due to high demand and lack of funding, many farmers are unfortunately turned away from these programs. It is clear we need broader access to conservation programs and other incentives for more sustainable farming.&nbsp;</div> <div><br /> In 2022, Congress passed nearly $20 billion in funding to help more farmers, ranchers, and foresters engage in conservation practices, reversing some of the system’s deep backlog of needs. The farming community has already been taking advantage of these new conservation incentives and is witnessing their benefits, including reduced input costs, improved soil health and water quality, greater resilience to flood and drought, and less reliance on the emergency safety net. Our farmers need a conservation-forward Farm Bill now, not cuts to these vital programs.&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Join us in lifting your voice to support American farmers by sending a message to policy makers about the benefits of a climate-smart, conservation-forward Farm Bill for the health and wellbeing of our children, food systems, farmers, and God’s creation.</div> </div> Tue, 31 Oct 2023 04:00:00 GMT http:https://www.congressweb.com/NRPE/95
