January 15th Update: The Senate voted 82-15 to pass the budget, meaning that the bill now heads to the President's desk for his signature. You can continue to use this form to send a thank you note to your Senators and House representative that voted for the bill.

After nearly a year of funding uncertainty amid threats of devastating budget cuts, Congress is set to vote on a bipartisan funding bill that will keep NASA and the National Science Foundation funded at close to current levels. H.R. 6938, the result of a bipartisan negotiation, would fund NASA at $24.4 billion, including $7.25 billion for Science, and NSF at $8.75 billion. These funding levels represent a rejection of the cuts proposed by the Office of Management & Budget last year. By passing this bill, Congress can protect American leadership in space and prevent the dismantling of our world-class research capabilities. Passage of H.R. 6938 would be a rejection of the proposed cuts to federal science programs. Stop the cuts to NASA

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory just announced that 550 more scientists, engineers, and other professionals will be laid off due to the budget crisis facing NASA. These layoffs follow more than 1,400 since the beginning of last year. NASA is losing another 4,000 public servants as a result of deeply unpopular cuts proposed by the White House Office of Management & Budget. These senseless cuts have caused serious damage to America's ability to lead in space science, economic development, and technology innovation.

Further layoffs at JPL and other NASA Centers could happen if Congress doesn't pass full funding for NASA Science. Write to your elected representatives and urge decisive action to restore funding for space science and exploration.
