Support Clean Energy Tax Credits that Strengthen Our Communities

New clean energy tax credits and direct pay opportunities for households, churches, and schools have made it easier than ever to bring clean energy to our homes and communities. Thousands have already taken advantage of these benefits that protect God’s creation and our health with cleaner air, purer water, and less carbon pollution. These incentives are also investments in our communities, generating local family-sustaining jobs in districts across the country.

However, a new proposal under consideration in Congress would immediately eliminate the 30% tax credit for homeowners to install solar, along with other credits for home energy efficiency upgrades that deliver hundreds in savings each year. The proposal also accelerates the phaseout of large-scale clean energy and manufacturing investments driving local job creation and undercuts the 30% direct rebates to churches, schools, and other tax-exempt entities for clean energy and energy efficiency installations.

Call on Congress and the EPA to Protect Human Health and the Environment

On March 12, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its intent to overturn and undo decades of bipartisan consensus on critical pollution safeguards that have resulted in cleaner air and water and significant health improvements. The announcements cover 31 health protections, including standards on mercury, soot, and traffic pollution as well as the reconsideration of a decade-old, evidence-based conclusion that carbon dioxide, methane, and four other climate-warming pollutants endanger human health and welfare.

These crucial protections and safeguards are the result of years of advocacy and commitment to defending the lives of our children and communities from harmful pollution and negative health outcomes including hindered brain development, low birth weight, asthma, and spinal cord defects in newborns as well as higher rates of dementia and cancer in adults. While we have made incredible gains in recent years, the American Lung Association finds that nearly 40% of Americans, representing 131.2 million people, still live in areas with unhealthy air. Our work is far from finished, and we will not rest until all God’s children are free from the burden of pollution and can reach their full God-given potential.

Over the past few years, our EEN community has worked hard to achieve historic action on pollution safeguards, clean energy, and climate solutions that defend our children’s health, provide family-sustaining careers, and put our nation and the world on the path toward a brighter future.

Through your dedicated actions and support, EEN has been a key player in helping pass unprecedented investments in clean energy and climate action through the bipartisan infrastructure bill and even more in the Inflation Reduction Act. In 2024 alone, we celebrated stronger safeguards on soot, methane pollution, carbon pollution from power plants, and traffic pollution from heavy and light-duty vehicles.

As we welcome a new administration and Congress, we must ensure that this momentum is continued and not halted or stripped back. Now is the time for us to stand strong for God’s creation and oppose any efforts to undo this progress for a healthy environment and safe climate for all God’s children. Lift Your Voice to Support Our Farmers

Over the past year, EEN has spoken with farmers across the country to hear directly from them about their needs for the federal Farm Bill. Time and again, we heard how conservation programs are helping our farmers. They’re making family farms more resilient to extreme weather and are defending America's food security. Due to high demand and lack of funding, many farmers are unfortunately turned away from these programs. It is clear we need broader access to conservation programs and other incentives for more sustainable farming.

In 2022, Congress passed nearly $20 billion in funding to help more farmers, ranchers, and foresters engage in conservation practices, reversing some of the system’s deep backlog of needs. The farming community has already been taking advantage of these new conservation incentives and is witnessing their benefits, including reduced input costs, improved soil health and water quality, greater resilience to flood and drought, and less reliance on the emergency safety net. Our farmers need a conservation-forward Farm Bill now, not cuts to these vital programs.
